A local martial arts school is offering a free women’s self-defense class.
St. Helens Kung Fu Club is hosting the event on Saturday, Feb. 4. at 5:00pm
231 South First Street Second Level, Saint Helens, Oregon 97051
Instructor Shaun Kennedy said for students who would like to explore self-defense deeper, the following three Saturdays there will be more focused sessions. The further sessions will be $25 total, which Kennedy will use to hire some help for the last session, so students get a chance to practice against a real opponent.
Kennedy teaches a mixture of Northern Shaolin Long Fist and Northern Praying Mantis. He studied Long Fist at the St. Helens Shaolin Kung Fu Club from 1994 until 2006, when he took over as head instructor. Along the way, he learned two styles of Praying Mantis and Italian Renaissance-style fencing, folding all those elements into his own approach to teaching.
